Students from Spelman and Morehouse joined forces to show their support of fair and equitable treatment for all citizens after the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO while showing their HBCU commitment for Peace+Love.
Peace+Love traveled to New York with 75 students from high schools in the Philadelphia area. Participating high schools included Overbrook High School, A. Phillip Randolph Skill Center, and Cheltenham High School. Student attendees participated in the 106&Park studio audience adorned in Peace+Love gear.
For the Founders of Peace+Love this was a euphoric eclipse to end domestic violence awareness month on the day the Founder’s sister, Theresa Linda Davis, was murdered by her husband on October 29, 1985. Spending the day in New York at 106&Park was a great experience for the students; while providing a humbling opportunity to honor the lives of women who have lost their life or been effected by domestic violence.
For the student participants they were given a double dose of 106&Park as they participated in two shows. Students were dressed in holiday costumes for the airing of the Halloween show featuring recording artist French Montana.
Peace+Love owes a huge thank you to its supporters and sponsors: Richard Austin, former Peace+Love Board President, Craig Alleyne, State Farm Insurance, City2City Bus Tours, Brendon and Gwen Bing, and the school administrators at Overbrook High School, A. Phillip Randolph and Cheltenham High School.
Many, may not know and many may be a little less engaged in our process of changing the world with Peace+Love because it is more of an interactive, civic engagement movement towards change. What does that mean? It means that we believe “You are what you Wear”, “You are what you Live”, “You are what you Believe” and “You are what you Project”.
The words Peace+Love are action words although they are not verbs – as people you must embody the spirit of peace and non-violence; for the embodiment of that spirit will become what you are best known for – have you ever come across a person in your life that you say – she/he has such a peaceful spirit, they are always so calm, relaxed, and loving….that is the how a noun becomes a verb because the actions of that person through their beliefs and how they live is who they are.
The projection of Peace+Love through fashion, arts, and entertainment is the compliment to living in the spirit of Peace+Love. What you project to the world is what you get out of it – imagine the constant, repetition of the projection of Peace+Love in our daily lives. Children, men, and women projecting Peace+Love in what they say, what they do and what they wear…..it can be…it should be…infectious!!!
